Alstom Bharat Forge signs contract with NTPC

Alstom Bharat Forge has signed a contract worth $219 million with NTPC for the supply of steam turbine generator islands.

Alstom Bharat Forge, the joint-venture company between GE and Bharat Forge Ltd has signed a contract worth $219 million with NTPC. The company will supply two units of 800 MW steam turbine generator islands to the Telangana Super Power Thermal Power Project Phase-1 (TSPTPPP-1) near Ramagundam .

A company statement from Alstom said that they will supply two units of 800 MW of ultra-super critical steam turbine generator islands on EPC basis. This will be done along with the related civil work for the TSPTPPP-1 in the Karimnagar district of Telangana.

The 800 MW steam turbine generator islands for the power project will be the first with ultra-supercritical parameters that will help in meeting the increasing power demand in the southern states. The generator would add 1,600 MW to the electricity grid. The Southern region in the country has a total power demand of 34,000 MW.

The manufacturing of the equipment needed for the project will be majorly done at ABFPPL’s Sanand facility in Gujarat.

Alstom Bharat Forge Power Pvt Limited (ABFPPL) manufactures and supplies 600- 800 MW steam turbines, turbines, heat exchangers for coal-fueled power plants and generators.

General Electrics acquired the ABFPPL shareholdings on November 26, 2009, as a part of their global acquisition of energy business activities of Alstom SA.
