In a first between the business institutions of India and Singapore, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has entered into a Technology Partnership memorandum of understanding (MoU) with two agencies of Singapore in order to promote expertise for expanding businesses.

The MoU was signed on Monday with Singapore Business Federation (SBF) and International Enterprise (IE) Singapore, a first between Indian and Singapore business institutions.

Underlining the importance of the MoUs, High Commissioner of India to Singapore, Jawed Ashraf, termed it as “a step in the right direction” to build a robust partnership in order to expand businesses.

“We have to build a roadmap for expanding businesses,” he said.

“Even we have bigger tasks for CII, SBF, IE Singapore and others,” he said while asking for new MoUs with other businesses and trade institutions in Singapore.

The MoUs would help in building platforms to establish partnerships which can connect our startups and small enterprises, said the High Commissioner, asking the Indian enterprises to leverage Singapore as the gateway to ASEAN markets of over 600 million people.

He also called on businesses based in Singapore to develop a greater sense of adventure and to reach out to India’s market of over 1.3 billion people.

He further said that a number of business events were being planned for 2017 that included a conference with the Indian business community of ASEAN to be held later this year in Singapore.

“Among others, we are going to work with SBF and do a conversation with Indian cities because urbanisation is going to be our biggest challenge and biggest engine of our progress in the coming months,” he said.
