In keeping with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ambitious scheme of ‘Digital India’, Ministry of Coal has taken a decision to convert all documents and papers into digital format.

The Ministry has fully implemented e-office application on October 17, 2016 and the entire file work in the Ministry is now being done electronically.

“Ministry of Coal has decided to convert all papers and documents into digital format in keeping with the Prime Minister’s Digital India Initiative,” stated Piyush Goyal, Minister of State (IC) for Power, Coal, New & Renewable Energy and Mines in a written response to the Lok Sabha on Thursday.

Goyal further said that the process of digitisation has brought efficiency and transparency in the working of the Coal Ministry as it would ease quick processing and speedy movement of files thus enabling fast and seamless decision making.

“It would also enable rapid retrieval of files, records and prevent loss and misplacing of files & records,” he added.

The digitisation process is likely to be finished by the end of current financial year.
