The PM’s initiative to launch e-mandis could be a deliverance to the farming community. Farmers could benefit by the technological initiative that aims at farmers in 8 states to sell 25 commodities in 21 wholesale mandis!

On the occasion of 125th birthday of Ambedkar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the National Agricultural Market portal with an aim of connecting the e-mandis in all the states. The launching of e-mandis will happen in the evening today at Delhi.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted, “In the evening will launch e-trading platform for the National Agriculture Market. 21 mandis from 8 States will join the platform today.”

The agriculture minister Radha Singh Mohan said that the government is aiming to assimilate 200 mandis by the end of September and 585 mandis by 2018 March. “About 200 crore rupees has been sanctioned for this purpose,” he added.

Union Agriculture Minister, Radha Mohan Singh remarked yesterday on the launching of the new platform, “The national agriculture market will enable farmers in eight states to sell 25 commodities online in 21 wholesale mandis and get a better price.”

“The states include Gujarat, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh,” he added.

The online trading will be initially allowed with in the state, however the trading between the inter-state is possible only once all the state and mandis are integrated, said the Singh.

Singh also pointed out that, the government has received proposal from 12 states for the integration of the state and 365 whole sale mandis.

He said, “Over 25 commodities including onion, potato, apple, wheat, pulses, coarse grains and cotton, have been identified for online trading. To integrate a wholesale mandi with the online platform, the state governments have to amend their Agriculture Produce Market Committee Act.”

For the pilot launch, 21 mandis have been selected from 8 states.
