    To cater to the growing demand of 3D printing in India, especially from automotive manufacturing segment, a German manufacturer of industrial 3D printing systems has set up a unit in the country’s western state of Maharashtra. “The new voxeljet subsidiary is located in Pune, a large automotive and manufacturing center near Mumbai,” the German firm voxeljet said in a statement. Three-dimensional printing is mostly used in foundry industry for marking of engineering goods made of heavy metals. The global popularity and acceptance of the 3D printing technology has led to growing interest in 3D printers and on-demand parts services in India. “After the UK, the US and China, the subsidiary in India represents the next big step in voxeljet’s global growth strategy,” said Rudolf Franz notes, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of voxeljet. The company has appointed Nidhi Shah as the Managing Director of its Indian unit. Having more than 10 years of experience in 3D printing methods and additive manufacturing technolgy, Shah is expected to play an important role in establishing the voxeljet brand in India and promoting the development of an operational presence in the market. “Similar to the already established voxeljet subsidiaries, the company also plans to establish a service center for the on-demand manufacture of 3D-printed molds within the next 18 months. The first phase will focus on the development of the sales and service structure,” the company said. With an aim to establish a strong market presence in India, voxeljet will also attend the international foundry exhibition (IFEX) to be held in Coimbatore from January 29-31, 2016.
