GMR Infra signs pact with Japanese firm to develop food park in Andhra Pradesh

GMR Infra and JGC Corporation will develop 300 acres of export-oriented food processing park at Kakinada SEZ in Andhra Pradesh

Kakinada SEZ Pvt. Ltd. (KSEZ), a subsidiary of GMR Infrastructure Ltd. has signed an agreement with Japanese construction major JGC Corporation (JGC) to jointly develop an export-oriented food processing park at Kakinada SEZ. As part of the agreement, GMR and JGC will jointly undertake a detailed study to develop and operate the food processing park which will cater to various food and agro processing sectors like sea food, fruits and vegetables, pulses and grains, dairy products, spices and nuts. “The significant traction built by the governments of India and Japan and the recent discussions between the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and the Ministry of Economy Trade & Industry (METI), Govt. of Japan have persuaded Japanese industry to increase investments in India,” GMR Infrastructure Ltd. said in a statement. Around 300 acres of land has been earmarked for setting up of the proposed food park which will have facilities to process and produce both value added and ready-to-eat products. Many Japanese organisations such as JBIC, JETRO, METI, Ministry of Land Infrastructure & Transport (MLIT), Ministry of Agriculture Forestry & Fisheries (MAFF), Govt. of Japan as well as various Japanese financial institutions have expressed their support for this food processing project. GMR Group has 10.5 thousand acres of industrial region at Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh, which is strategically located on the oil and natural gas-rich Eastern Coast - well connected by national highways, railway networks, and air and sea ports In May this year, China-based Guizhou International Investment Corp (GIIC) had signed an agreement with Kakinada SEZ Pvt. Ltd. to establish high-end Chinese equipment manufacturing companies to develop power equipment, electronics, wind & solar energy and smart technologies.
