Govt assures fertilisers industry of multifarious support

The industry has extended credit facility to the fertiliser retailers and dealers.

Inaugurating the annual seminar of Fertiliser Association of India (FAI), the Chemicals and Fertilisers and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar on Thursday said the present government will continue to take adequate measures to ensure that the country’s fertiliser industry remains on the growth path.   

Indian industry registered a record production of urea during the financial year 2015-16. He acknowledged the industry’s long-pending demand of payment of balance (10%) subsidy, revision of fixed cost for indigenous urea industry and clearance of backlog subsidy of previous years. He assured that the government is taking adequate efforts to resolve these issues during the current financial year.  

The Minister also thanked the industry for extending the credit facility to the fertilizer retailers and dealers following the demonitisation of currency. “It will help the farmers to get fertilizer on credit,” he said.  

The Minister congratulated and thanked the entire management viz. from CMD to the common worker of the industry for achieving record production of urea during the financial year 2015-16.

Hoping that the Narendra Modi-led government’s demonitisation scheme will help the fertilisers industry, the minister thanked the entire fertiliser industry for applauding the demonetisation scheme and assured them that the government will extend adequate measures to stablise the fertiliser sector, a part of the government’s vision to double the farmers’ income by 2022. 

“The fertiliser industry constitutes a major input for agriculture. Therefore, the government will take all measures to stablilise the fertiliser sector so that the dream of the Prime Minister to double farm income will be a reality,” Kumar said. 

Kumar also urged the fertiliser industry to work together with the Indian government in the interest of the farmers of the country to ensure food security of India.
