In order to facilitate the businesses, the Government on Monday extended the last date for filing GSTR-2 for July to November 30 and date for filing GSTR-3 to December 11, 2017.

Earlier, October 31 was the due date for filing GSTR-2, whereas November 11 was the last date for filing of GSTR-3.

“The last date for filing of GSTR-2 for the month of July, 2017 is October 3, 2017,” the Finance Ministry said in a statement.

“The competent authority has approved the extension of filing of GSTR-2 for July, 2017 to November, 2017, for facilitation of businesses and all taxpayers,” it said.

GSTR-2 is monthly tax returns for the purchases that have to be matched with the sales return or GSTR-1. Whereas, GSTR-3 is a matching form of GSTR-1 and GSTR-2.

The last date for filing of GSTR-1 for the month of July was October 1. More than 46.54 lakh businesses and taxpayers had filed GSTR-1 for July.

“The extension will facilitate about 30.81 lakh taxpayers for filing GSTR-2 for the month of July, 2017,” the statement said.

Businesses have complained that they are facing problems in matching the invoices while filing GSTR-2 returns on the GSTN portal. The last date extension for filing the returns will bring respite to the businesses and for GSTN, which can further simplify the utilities on the Network’s portal.

Last week, the Group of Minister headed by Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi had flagged these issues faced by the businesses.
