The government on Wednesday said that it is hard to evaluate the impact of 'Brexit' on India and the Indian community in the UK, in a reply to a query on the matter in the Parliament.

Gen V K Singh, the MoS for External Affairs said in the Lok Sabha that the Indian High Commission in the UK was in the course of assessing the impact of UK’s exit from EU on Indians residing in the country.

The relations between UK and EU are yet to develop till then, it is difficult to evaluate the implications of UK’s exit from the Union on India and its community in the country, Singh said.

Recently, Nirmala Sitharaman, Minister of Commerce and Industry, had stated that India and UK were looking for an FTA (free trade agreement) after the latter’s departure from the EU.

Replying to another question Singh, mentioned the reports in the media, which stated that there was an increase in the number of hate crimes and racist attacks in the days after the June 26 Brexit referendum.

However, he mentioned that there is no documented racist incident, targeting the Indian community in that country.
