The work to establish an integrated hub for aviation at Hisar will start this year during the golden jubilee celebrations of Haryana.

Haryana’s 'Swarn Jayanti' celebrations will start on November 1, 2016 and continue till October 31 2017. Haryana became a separate state in the year 1966.

“The state-of-the-art aviation hub would be developed over an area of over 3,000 acres. The central government has been urged to include Hisar and Karnal in the Regional Connectivity Scheme which would come into effect in the second quarter of 2016-2017,” Rao Narbir Singh, Haryana's Civil Aviation Minister, said on Tuesday.

In the first phase of the project, a series of activities is to be undertaken that include extension of the prevailing runway to 7,000 feet from 4,000 feet, provision for landing at night-time, building additional Hangers for Maintenance Repair Overhaul and terminal building renovation, Singh said.

“A budget allocation has been made for Rs.50 crore in the current fiscal year for the project purpose. In addition to this, an amount of Rs.20 crore has been set aside for the development of other airstrips in Haryana, including Bhiwani, Karnal, Pinjore and Narnaul,” he said.

In an official release, Singh said, “The Hisar aerodrome would be raised as international airport, as announced by Manohar Lal Khattar, Chief Minister of Haryana and the government of Haryana has 196-acre of land for the aerodrome at Hisar,” he said.

“The government of Haryana has already involved Chennai-based M/s Frost and Sullivan India Pvt Ltd, as a consultant for the development of aerodrome at Hisar as an Integrated Aviation Hub,” he said.

Based on the consultant’s recommendations, various other activities such as a aerocity consisting of housing and commercial development would also be carried out in a phased way.

The Civil Aviation Department of Haryana has written a letter to the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation for getting approval with regards to the site clearance for developing the aerodrome as an integrated aviation hub or international airport.
