India, US to add advance manufacturing in S&T dialogue

In a step to further the ambitious scheme of ‘Make in India’, India and the US have decided to include ‘advance manufacturing’ in their Dialogue on Science and Technology. Both the countries have also agreed to add ocean wave modeling and agriculture science, in the field of science and technology (S&T).

In this regard, a decision was taken during the S&T Joint Commission meeting, between India and the US, which was held at the White House. Dr Harsh Vardhan, Union Science and Technology Minister co-chaired the meeting with John Holdren, Assistant to the President for S&T.

The two sides also reviewed the progress between the two countries under five Joint Working Groups for S&T cooperation and have decided that innovation and techno-entrepreneurship will be the focus of future collaboration.

The Minister was in Washington (US) to take part in the Arctic Ministerial held on September 28, which saw the participation of top officials from around 20 countries.

In his address, Dr Vardhan put emphasis on the importance of climate change in the Arctic region and its effect on the monsoon in India.

He stated that India is ready to augment cooperation in science and research on Arctic region.

On his visit, he also interacted with eminent scientists, innovators, engineers, and academicians and exchanged views on strengthening the cooperation in the field of scientific between the two nations.

Dr Vardhan reiterated that strong S&T cooperation between the research institutions and scientific community of two countries is one of the pillars of vibrant India-US ties.
