India's electronics industry to grow to $400 billion by 2022 : ELCINA

Reiterating full support for electronic manufacturing fraternity of the country, the Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju on Wednesday said the department is ready to facilitate speedier security clearances for electronic products.

“Today, the country’s electronic manufacturing fraternity not just plays a pivotal role in the nation building but stands as a flag bearer of the Government’s Make in India scheme of things,” Rijiju said while speaking at the ELCINA (the Electronic Industries Association of India)’s Golden Jubilee event.

Stressing on the need for Government and the industry to collaborate to stimulate manufacturing and catalyse an IT/Electronics boom to aid to the development of India, Rijjiju added, “We are always open to industry-wide consultations to help  contribute to indigenous innovation and assist our manufacturers to compete more effectively globally.”

Pinning hopes for brighter days for the electronic manufacturing in the country, Vikram Desai, President ELCINA emphasised on the need for enhancing domestic value addition in the sector by way of forging stronger alliances in electronics manufacturing and technology development with global partners. “Such win wins can help the industry meet not just the burgeoning requirement of global supply chains but demands in India” Desai felt.

Lauding the key role played by ElCINA in not just helping formulate but implement The National Policy on Electronics (NPE), Additional Secretary, Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DEITy) Ajay Kumar said that by 2019-20, the department is aiming to produce 50 crore mobile phones with value addition levels up to 40%.

Going forward, Kumar who feels that medical electronics could be the next big segment the industry should bet on, and added that the industry should keep pace with latest in new age technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT).

The event also saw felicitation of leaders for the Electronics sectors, signing of an MoU between Info Power Technologies Ltd. and Mitac Holdings Corp., Taiwan, Unveiling of ELCINA Industry Book and ELCINA Investor’s Manual.

India’s electronics industry that currently stands at $140 billion is projected to grow to $400 billion by 2022, according to ELCINA.
