Larsen & Toubro bags Rs.500 crore order for Doha Metro

The contract covers Building Automation and Control Systems (BACS) for 37 stations.

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) on Thursday announced its electrical and automation business division has secured a Rs.500 crore contract from Qatar Rail Company for phase 1 of Doha Metro.

“L&T Electrical & Automation, the competency centre for L&Ts automation business in UAE, has bagged the Rs.500 crore contract from Qatar Rail Company (QRAIL),” L&T said in a statement issued.

The scope of the contract covers supply, installation, testing, integration, commissioning and maintenance for a period of five years of a network-wide Building Automation and Control Systems (BACS) for its 37 stations.

"LTEAFZEs core strengths for project management, domain knowledge, and application engineering will enable us to offer distinctly superior and proven system integration solutions by leveraging L&Ts capabilities built over four decades," L&TSenior Vice President and Head of E&A Business SC Bhargava said.

The Frame Agreement given by QRAIL to LTEAFZE has nine listed contracts with design and build contractors for all the stations and tunnels under multiple lines. It also includes a five-year maintenance contract with Qatar Rail.

The metro system will be constructed in two phases. In the first phase, three out of the four lines (Red, Gold, and Green) and 37 stations covering 111 km of tunnels and 8.7 km of viaducts will be constructed.

The Phase 1 project covering all the 37 stations is scheduled to be completed by August 2018. These lines are expected to be fully operational for the public by 2020.

The second phase will involve the expansion of the Phase 1 lines and the construction of an additional Blue Line and another 72 stations. It is expected to be completed by 2026.
