‘Made in India’ along with ‘Make in India’ highlighted in industry meet

Speaking at the Federation of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FTAPCCI) event on ‘Make in India’, the industry experts stressed on need for domestic growth as a part of Make in India initiative.

  The Federation of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FTAPCCI), on Friday, conducted a seminar on ‘Make in India-Opportunities and Challenges’. The event that was primarily focused on ‘Make in India’ also witnessed a pitch for the ‘Made in India’ initiative, which was highlighted by key speakers at the event. Speaking at the event, Shiv Kumar Rungta, president, FTAPCCI, stressed on key sectors like services (mainly in IT), mechanization of Agriculture sector for achieving increased productivity, among others, for the success of ‘Make in India’. He further said the areas under top agenda include the improvisation of ease of doing business, fast approval of projects (period could be decreased from 27 days to 1 day), and incentivisation of labour reforms rather than having tenure-based system and increase of FDI in many more sectors. Speaking to The Dollar Business, Shiv Kumar Rungta highlighted the Defence, Textiles, Pharma and Food Processing sectors as the main thrust areas of focus. He further said the seminar is mainly intended at getting clarity on the governmental plans towards the industrial process, creating interest among the investors for drawing more investments into the Telangana State. In his address, Jitender Reddy, Member of Parliament, lauded the government’s efforts in promoting ‘Make in India’ and further invited the industries to ensure domestic growth. Jitender Reddy, who hails from the Mahbubnagar district of Telangana State, invited the industries to make start-ups in his home district, while informing that almost 80% of the population in the district are being employed by the already-existing companies -PNG, Johnson & Johnson, among others. He informed that a skill training centre will be setup in the district in collaboration with the Australian Skill Training Centre. Jupally Krishna Rao, Minister of Industries, Government of Telangana called upon the local industries to be ambassadors in inviting global industries/investors to the Telangana State and also wished that AP and Telangana would prosper equally in the way of development. B V R Mohan Reddy, Founder Chariman and Managing Director, Cyient, urged for reduction of imports in the electronic sector and stressed on the need for self-reliance. Stating that the manufacturing costs are 6%-8% higher compared to the other nations, Reddy said India need to focus on global competitiveness and also stressed on the need for promotion of an entrepreneurial ecosystem. As a chairman of NASSCOM, Reddy also raised concerns over the taxation system and called for the reformation of the same, for having a better business environment. He highlighted upon the sectorial-specific environment, while laying stress on sectors like Aerospace, Electronics, Defence, among others. Speaking on the prospects of industrial growth in the Telangana State, Arvind Kumar, Secretary, Department of Industries & Commerce and Energy, Government of Telangana, said the availability of land, power and infrastructure support make it easier for industries to make start-ups in Telangana. He informed that under Telangana Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TSIIC), 150 parks with infrastructure intact, sector-specific parks, 240,000 acres of land bank are available with the State for the industries. He informed the industries about the ease of doing business with a self-certification process, faster approval of procedures, uninterrupted power supply, among others, in Telangana State. On the whole, the pitch for ‘Make in India’, along with the ‘Made in India’ process can be quoted as a key highlight of the event.
