Reliance Defence Limited (RDL), a subsidiary of Reliance Infrastructure Limited, has signed an agreement with Abu Dhabi Ship Building (ADSB) for the setting up of a strategic partnership for the construction of naval ships to cater to the demands of the Gulf Cooperation Council over the next 10 years. “Under this MoU, RDL and ADSB are investigating the opportunity to set up a strategic partnership for the construction of naval ships, including frigates, destroyers and other specialised vessels to address the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) over the next 10 years. “The agreement could also see ADSB delivering maintenance repair, overhaul and refit services to the vessels, in line with regioan requirements," the Anil Ambani-led firm said in a statement on Monday. Reliance Group is likely to use its newly acquired ship-building facilities at Pipavav for implementation of this collaboration,” the statement said, adding that the agreement came after the Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the UAE on August 18, which highlighed “cooperation and manufacture of defence equipment in India”. The Reliance Group said that skills and expertise gained through this collaboration will “further add to its capabilities and position it favourably as a strategic partner for Indian navy's future programmes encompassing areas such as Combat Management Systems (CMS), Integrated Bridge Solutions (IBS), Combat System Integration (CSI), Integrated Platform Management Systems (IPMS) and staff training and development.” ADSB has a portfolio of construction and refit projects worth more than AED3 billion. The UAE firm is 40% owned by Mubadala, 10% by Abu Dhabi government and 50% publicly traded on the UAE's stock exchange.
