Civil Aviation Policy envisages growth of cargo volumes to 10 mn tonnes by 2027

The Dollar Business Bureau The National Civil Aviation Policy, 2016 has envisaged growth of cargo volumes to 10 million tonnes by 2027. As per data maintained by the Airports Authority of India (AAI), air freight handled at Indian airports grew by more than 20 times from 0.08 million metric tonnes in 1972-73 to 2.5 million metric tonnes in 2014-15, and its compound annual growth rate (CAGR) was 8.8% during 2013-14 to 2016-17. Measured in million tonne-kilometers, the data maintained by the World Bank also shows that air freight transported by India went up from 96.3 million tonne-kilometers in 1970 to 1,833.8 million tonne-kilometers in 2015. Government has awarded 128 routes to 5 airlines under the UDAN scheme

The Dollar Business Bureau The Government has awarded 128 routes connecting 43 unserved and under-served airports to 5 selected airlines for commencing operations under Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS) - UDAN in the 1st round of bidding. RCS flights from six RCS airports - Shimla, Nanded, Kandla, Porbandar Gwalior & Bhatinda-  have already commenced. The 2nd round of bidding under RCS-UDAN is likely to commence soon.  The Ministry of Civil Aviation launched RCS-UDAN  scheme on 21-10-2016  to facilitate/stimulate regional air connectivity by making it affordable. AAI organises health camp on International Women's Day

The Dollar Business Bureau The Airport Authority of India organised a health check-up and health discussion program for women workers on International Women's Day. On October 8, 2017, The Airports Authority of India (AAI) conducted a health check-up and health-related discussion program for women employees at the Rajiv Gandhi Bhavan. The joint camp organised with the help of SCI International Hospital, New Delhi also conducted blood sugar, blood pressure and BMI examination by women's health specialist doctors. The program commenced with Anuj Agarwal, Member (Human Resources) lighting a lamp. In his address to the gathering, he wished for the well-being and healthy life of all women employees. A large number of AAI women employees had enthusiastically participated in the health check-up program.

Commerce ministry seeks details from mines ministry on aluminium MIP

The Dollar Business Bureau The Ministry of Commerce on Monday sought clarifications from the Ministry of Mines with respect to the minimum import price of aluminium, as the government looks to take more steps to protect the domestic steel industry.  “They (the commerce ministry) raised certain queries. We are sending replies of those queries to the commerce ministry,” Mines Secretary Balvinder Kumar told PTI. AAI allows banks to operate Currency Exchange Counters at airports free of cost

The Dollar Business Bureau The decision of the Government of India to demonetise the currency ( 1000 and 500 notes) across the nation has led to currency hardship for airport users and air travellers. Hence, extending its support to the campaign and facilitating airport users and air travelers, AAI has decided to allow any Scheduled Commercial Bank to open and operate (on temporary basis) Currency Exchange Counter (small) for currency exchange without levying charges for space and electricity, etc. at its airports across the country December 31, 2016 subject to availability of space. The Dollar Business Bureau  Chandigarh International Airports Limited (CHIAL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Airports Authority of India (AAI) for the financial year 2016-17.  The MoU was signed by Dr. Guruprasad Mohapatra, IAS, Chairman, AAI with Sh.
