My ministry will work on developing global supply chain for the agri-sector, Prabhu

The Dollar Business Bureau The Commerce and Industry Ministry will soon bring in a policy framework for facilitating access to global markets for the Indian agriculture produce, Union minister Suresh Prabhu said while addressing an agri summit. Prabhu, who took charge as Commerce and Industry Minister recently, said that his ministry will work on developing global supply chain for the agriculture sector.  Addressing the agri summit the minister said that multilaterally there is also need to work on removing trade restrictions with an aim to boost Indias agri exports. Cabinet approves India-Kyrgyzstan agreement on agriculture

The Dollar Business Bureau The Union Cabinet on Wednesday has given its nod for the pact to be signed between India and Kyrgyzstan for cooperation in the area of agriculture and food-related sector.  “The Union Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi has approved the proposal of the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare for Signing of an Agreement between India and Kyrgyzstan on cooperation in the field of agriculture and food related industry,” an official release said. Govt has no records of exports data from Agri Export Zones

 Himanshu Vatsa | The Dollar Business The government has no records of exports and other details about 60 Agri Export Zones (AEZs) set up in various states. In order to promote India’s exports of processed agricultural products, AEZs were set up under several schemes of the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA). These facilities have been set up in 20 states covering more than 230 districts. The project covers 35 crops including fruits, vegetables, spices, cashew, tea, basmati rice, medicinal plants, and pulses. Investment in science and tech to push agriculture, growth

The Dollar Business Bureau On Friday, US Ambassador to India Richard Verma met Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh and discussed issues of mutual cooperation and ties to ensure world food security. The Agriculture Minister expressed interest in the technology used by the US for weather forecasting to improve preparedness as well as redressal of problems caused by natural calamities, said a PIB release. The two countries emphasised on transforming the structure of the cooperation vis-à-vis the current scenario, which needs changes in the agreement signed in 2010 in the agriculture and allied sectors. Study recommends use of Drones to help small farmers

The Dollar Business Bureau A pitch for the deployment of technology in the Agriculture sector was made in a recent report by The Associated Chamber of Commerce & Industry’s (ASSOCHAM) report. The ASSOCHAM-Skymet paper made out a case for the technology intervention in solving the problems of small and marginal farmers.
