Govt imposes MEP of $850/MT on onions to boost domestic supplies

The Dollar Business Bureau In order to increase local supplies and to control rising prices, the Government on Thursday levied a minimum export price (MEP) of $850 per metric tonne (MT) on onions till the end of this year.   Minimum Export Price is the minimum rate below which exports are not allowed. In December 2015, the Government has scrapped the MEP of onion. “Export of all varieties of onions will be allowed only on Letter of Credit (LC) subject to a minimum export price (MEP) of $850 FOB per metric tonne till December 31, 2017, Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) said in a notification (No.39/2015-2020), dated November 23. Govt lifts ban on export of all varieties of pulses

Basmati rice becomes Indias top exporting commodity

The Dollar Business Bureau  Basmati rice has again become the top commodity to be exported from India. The popular variety of rice overcame the exports of buffalo meat to take the position of the top most exporting commodity in the April-June quarter of 2017-18.  For years, Basmati rice had been the major export commodity of the country. Canada allows imports of Indian pomegranates, banana and okra for the first time

The Dollar Business Bureau Canada has allowed market access with certain conditions to Indian horticultural products like custard apples, pomegranates, okra, bananas, mangoes – this was relayed to the Indian industry by India’s Agricultural and Food Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) confirming the Canadian Food Inspection Agency’s (CFIAs) approval.  The conditions for the shipments that CFIA has specified included – origin of the material be clarified in a detailed manner on the shipping documents and that the produce is free of soil, pests and leaves.  APEDA’s letter detailed, “interested exporters of above mentioned commodities are advised to contact the Canadian importers to start export from India subject to compliance of above mentioned requirements.”  The letter also clearly stated that exporters must keep ...

Livestock farmers urge Govt to take measures to resume egg exports to Qatar

The Dollar Business Bureau The livestock farmers in India have prodded the Government to initiate measures in order to resume the exports of eggs to Qatar, which is now buying the commodity from EU and US at higher prices after the Gulf nation was isolated by its neighbours.  Before 2008, India was meeting 80% of Qatar’s requirements for table eggs. The Dollar Business Bureau Food Processing Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal on Tuesday said that there is no decline in the exports of buffalo meat from legal slaughter houses in the country.  The latest crackdown of illegal abattoirs in Uttar Pradesh is in compliance with the order of Supreme Court to check environment pollution and to protect the health of people, the Minister added. India, the biggest exporter of buffalo meat, shipped $3.76 billion worth of meat in the financial year 2016-17, according to Ministry of Commerce data. First consignment of Indian mangoes arrive in Australia

The Dollar Business Bureau  Mango, the king of fruits, has finally reached Australia from India, with an inaugural shipment of about 400 trays of mangoes landing in Sydney this week. The mangoes from India have been exported to Australia after the protocol was revised last month allowing the Indian fruit to cross into the Australian shores. As per Australian regulations, the fruit was allowed into their country only after being treated with irradiation prior to leaving from India.
