Trichy Airport opens dedicated terminal for import cargo

Sneha Gilada The Trichy International Airport now has a new import cargo processing unit, spread over 150 square metres, catering to three different operations of storage, examination and delivery.  The new establishment meant to deal exclusively with imported cargo dispatched in foreign aircraft, is in close proximity to the export freight terminal, with a ramp connecting the two.  This development also brings to light the disparity between the amount of import and export cargo handled by the airport. Reportedly, throughout FY2016-17, only 50 tonnes of imports were handled at this airport while the amount of export cargo went beyond 6,900 tonnes, bringing the total annual cargo to 6965 tonnes. GMR Infrastructure and GEK TERNA to build Crete airport

The Dollar Business Bureau India’s GMR Infrastructure had bid along with Greece’s GEK TERNA last year to build an airport on the island of Crete, Greece. The bid priced at 480 million euros was well below the expected 850 million euros sources revealed. CBEC amends Bill of Entry norms to prescribe late charges

The Dollar Business Bureau The Central Board of Excise and Customs has amended the Bill of Entry (Electronic Integrated Declaration) Regulations and Bill of Entry (Forms) Regulations – a part of the Customs Act, 1962 - to prescribe late charges for delayed filing. The amendments have been made to prescribe a late charge for delayed filing of Bill of Entry. After the amendment, the importer will be required to present the bill of entry before the end of the next day after the aircraft or vessel or vehicle carrying the goods has arrived at a customs station at which such goods are to be cleared for home consumption or for warehousing. CMR Group donates 23 acres land for airport project

The Dollar Business BureauBusinessmen and farmers have come forward to voluntarily hand over their land for the upcoming international airport at Bhogapuram in Vizianagaram district of Andhra Pradesh. CMR Group Chairman Mavuri Venkataramana has relinquished over 23 acres of land in Bhogapuram in Andhra Pradesh. Venkataramana gave the land to the district collector. The airport will be developed by Bhogapuram International Airport Company Ltd (BIACL), said a press release issued by District Collector office. Venkataramana also requested the farmers to come forward and give their lands to the district administration for the project. Airports to invest $8 bn on IT to enhance facilities

Source: PTI Globally airports are expected to invest over $8 billion in information technology space this year as more and more aerodromes upgrade the facilities to enhance passengers' experience, according to a survey. The annual Airport IT Trends Survey, co-sponsored by Airports Council International (ACI) and SITA in association with Airline Business, also indicated that operators were looking to develop 'smart airports' over the next three years with IT playing a major role in shaping them up. “The rate of investment in IT at airports around the world is rising.
