Passengers in Qatar airways can now travel seamlessly to and from India, over 150 destinations on single ticket

The Dollar Business Bureau Qatar Airways and Vistara on Tuesday entered into an interline partnership, under which customers of the two carriers will have seamless travel to and from India to over 150 destinations. The partnership is effective from Monday, Qatar Airways said in a media release. The Gulf carrier currently operates to 13 cities in India from Doha while Vistara, the Tata-SIA run domestic carrier operates to 18 domestic destinations. An interline arrangement refers to a pact to issue and accept tickets for flights that are operated by the partner airline. When selling an interline ticket, the operating airline's own flight numbers are used. Civil Aviation Policy envisages growth of cargo volumes to 10 mn tonnes by 2027

As per data maintained by the Airports Authority of India (AAI), air freight handled at Indian airports grew by more than 20 times from 0.08 million metric tonnes in 1972-73 to 2.5 million metric tonnes in 2014-15, and its compound annual growth rate (CAGR) was 8.8% during 2013-14 to 2016-17. Measured in million tonne-kilometers, the data maintained by the World Bank also shows that air freight transported by India went up from 96.3 million tonne-kilometers in 1970 to 1,833.8 million tonne-kilometers in 2015. New terminal to be built at Leh airport for Rs 200 crore

Government to develop new cargo terminals at 24 airports

The Dollar Business Bureau The government has identified 24 airports across the country for the development of cargo terminals. Airports located in tier-2 and tier-3 cities have been identified where common user domestic cargo terminal (CUDCT) will be established after checking feasibility, Mahesh Sharma, Minister of State, Civil Aviation, said in Lok Sabha. The facilities will be developed after carrying out feasibility study and minor modifications in the old/redundant passenger terminal buildings, he said.
