Apple selling iPhones manufactured in India on trial basis

More than 1.95 crore apple boxes exported to markets

PTI More than 1.95 crore apple boxes had been exported so far to various markets through 43,327 trucks from the State while 15,255 tonnes of apple was procured under Market Intervention Scheme (MIS) by HPMC and HIMFED till date through 277 collection centres, a spokesman of state Horticulture Department said. Apple production in Himachal is expected to be lower at around 2-crore standard boxes this year against 2.90 crore boxes last year. The production was less this year due to insufficient snowfall and lesser cooling days, essential for good crop. Near 3 lakh apple boxes exported to terminal markets

PTI Near about three lakh apple boxes from Himachal Pradesh have been exported to terminal markets since the beginning of the marketing season, government said today  "Till date, 618 trucks carrying 2,78,773 boxes of apple have been exported to terminal markets since the beginning of the marketing season," spokesman, Horticulture Department, said. He said the government will open 279 more procurement centres to facilitate the growers to sell the produce under the Market Intervention scheme. "Government has already opened 80 procurement centres and out of 279 new centers to be opened from August 1 on public demand, 162 collection centres will be opened and operated by the HPMC and 117 by the HIMFED," he added.

India maintains 50% import tariff on apples

The Dollar Business Bureau | @TheDollarBiz China accounts for almost half of all apple imports by India.   India’s Minister of State in the Ministry of Commerce & Industry Nirmala Sitharaman told the Parliament today that the import tariff on apples of 50% cannot be increased. The minister said that the current tariff is the “bound rate of duty” as per India’s commitments to the World Trade Organization (WTO) and further negotiations are required to increase the import duties on apple imports by India. “The scope for further increase in tariff rates without further negotiation under the WTO regime seems unlikely at present,” she said.
