Nadella pitches Microsoft's digital initiatives for Rural India

The Dollar Business Bureau Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, on his multi-city tour to India, met PM Narendra Modi and IT and Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad. In this brief meeting, he pitched Microsoft's digital inclusion initiatives to the government, which would help increase the reach of educational and healthcare services in rural areas.  At NITI Aayog, Nadella participated in discussions to shed light on the growing importance of cloud computing in good governance. LinkedIn, now a professional social network wholly owned by Microsoft, was also discussed for its potential in skilling and employment generation, along with other rural digital programmes.  Prasad also praised Microsoft's pilot project in Harisal, Maharashtra, which demonstrated the software giant's ability to bring good healthcare and education to remote areas by introducing digital connectivity. Microsoft posts growth in cloud services, drop in phones

The Dollar Business Bureau Microsoft released its FY 2017 second quarter results on January 26, 2017. It reported total revenues of $24.1 billion, up 1% year on year. The net income ($5.2 billion) has seen an increase of 4% year on year and earnings per share have increased to $0.66, up 6.4% from the previous year. Microsoft has its operations divided broadly into 'Productivity and Business Processes', 'Intelligent Cloud' and 'More Personal Computing'. The 'Productivity and Business Processes' segment showed 10% increase in revenue, amounting to $7.4 billion. Revenue in 'Intelligent Cloud' was $6.9 billion, up 8%, majorly driven by a 93% rise in revenue from Azure. 'More Personal Computing' saw a 5% drop in revenue, which stood at $11.8 billion. China targets double-digit growth in software, IT service industry

The Dollar Business Bureau China is looking to achieve a 13% annual growth in its software and IT service industries between 2016 and 2020. On Tuesday, the government released a five-year plan for the industry, underlining that it will support the development of software and IT service companies and will encourage them to become influential and competitive industry leaders. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) established a goal for 2020, that industry business revenue should exceed 8 trillion yuan (about $1.2 trillion) with average annual growth of more than 13% from 2016 to 2020.
