China to ban coal imports from small ports from July 1

The Dollar Business Bureau China will ban the imports of coal from July 1 at small ports, according to a report by the state-run newspaper - China Securities Times on Wednesday. China, the world's largest coal consumer, tightens the supply of this fuel as part of its efforts to manage glut as well as smog. President and chairman of several key companies of the Gujarat-based group, Pranav V Adani, met Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh here today to discuss possible areas of investment in Punjab. The Group already runs a solar power generation unit in Bhatinda in Punjab and has expressed interest in expanding presence in the state to several other important areas of progress and development, an official spokesperson said after the meeting. WBPCDL plans to use captive coal from Oct to Nov

The Dollar Business Bureau West Bengal Power Development Corporation is expecting to use coal from captive mines with a view to fuel its power generation units by October-November. The WBPDCL officials said that they are expecting to restart the mining activities in their own mines by October to November which would in turn help in mitigating power tariff. They also added that the de-allocation of the existing captive blocks by the centre in 2014 and also the arrangements of JVs to mine coals were scrapped forcibly. Australian court rejects bid to stop Adani's mega coal mine project

Source: PTI    In a relief to Indian mining giant Adani Group, an Australian court on Tuesday rejected a bid by environmentalists to stop its $16.5 billion controversy- hit coal mine project, but said the firm has “exaggerated” the economic benefits including the amount of jobs and royalties. The mega project in Queensland's Galilee Basin, which would become Australia’s largest coal mine, was challenged by Conservation group Coast and Country in Brisbane Land Court on the ground that it would affect groundwater, climate change and biodiversity, including black-throated finches, an endangered species. Adani's mine project: India conveys disappointment to Australia

Source: PTI India has conveyed its disappointment to Australia over the derailing of mining giant Adani's controversial $16.5 billion project in Queensland on issues relating to environment. Indian High Commissioner Navdeep Suri on Tuesday said the matter was discussed with Australian Trade Minister Andrew Robb during a trade and investment meeting held recently. “We did speak about the Adani Carmichael project in Queensland and I shared our disappointment over recent developments,” Suri said.
