India restores supply of eggs and pulses to Maldives

The Dollar Business Bureau The government has allowed the supply of over 23 crores of eggs and 122.23 MT of pulses to Maldives for 2017-18 without any restrictions or prohibition for export, under bilateral trade agreement between Government of India and Government of Maldives during the period 2017-18 w.e.f. April, 2017. A notification No.20/2015-2020 to the effect has been issued by the DGFT on August 14, 2017, mentioning that this decision is effective from April, 2017. Livestock farmers urge Govt to take measures to resume egg exports to Qatar

The Dollar Business Bureau The livestock farmers in India have prodded the Government to initiate measures in order to resume the exports of eggs to Qatar, which is now buying the commodity from EU and US at higher prices after the Gulf nation was isolated by its neighbours.  Before 2008, India was meeting 80% of Qatar’s requirements for table eggs. However, after the outbreak of bird flu (avian influenza) in 2006 and 2008 in the northern region of the country, Qatar banned poultry products from India including eggs, according to the Livestock & Agri Farmers Trade Association. USDA lowers forecast for meat production in 2017

The Dollar Business Bureau  The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) on Friday lowered the forecast for overall production of meat in 2017 to 100.1 billion pounds (lb) against the 100.4 billion pounds estimated last month. However, it raised the forecast for production in 2018 from the previous 102.8 billion lb to 103 billion lb.  “Beef production for 2017 was lowered to 26.3 billion lb primarily due to lighter carcass weights, which will more than offset expected increased slaughter in the later part of 2017, USDA said in its latest report “World Agricultural Supply & Demand Estimates” released on June 9.  The expectations for further placements are backing up a higher beef forecast in 2018 of 27.2 billion lb, the report added.  For 2017, ...

India, Russia agree to develop e-certification systems to boost food trade

Rosselkhoznadzor said that top officials on both sides held telephonic consultations on export of buffalo meat (carabeef) from India to Russia this week.
