Apparel exports up 31.7% in Apr, on RoSL Scheme support

The Dollar Business Bureau The apparel exports from India recorded a momentous rise of 31.7% in April this year as compared to same month a year ago. In a statement to the media Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC) said “India’s apparel exports registered momentous growth of 31.7% in April 2017 compared to same period last year.” According to the data, the apparel sector has been witnessing a double-digit growth, after the introduction of disbursement of RoSL (Rebate of State Levies) scheme. During March-April, this year, the garment exporters were able to enhance their production capacity by about 30% for achieving such growth and employed around 5% more workers during this same period, the statement said. Chidambaranar Port, TANGEDCO ink pact to upgrade coal jetties to handle 24 mn tonnes

The Dollar Business Bureau One of the top major ports in the country, the VO Chidambaranar (VOC) Port and Tamil Nadu’s Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Limited (TANGEDCO) inked an agreement today to increase the capacities of two coal jetties at the port four-fold to 24 million tonnes for Rs 800 crore. The pact will upgrade two coal jetties at VOC Port - Jetty I and II -- from 6.25 MTPA (million tonne per annum) to 24 MTPA. India to export 145 MW electricity to Nepal

The Dollar Business Bureau India said on Thursday that it would export extra electricity of 145 MW to Nepal through the newly built two cross-border transmission lines, few days after Nepal requested for more electricity to cope with the severe load-shedding. “Export of power to Nepal is expected to increase by around 145 MW shortly through two 132 kV transmission lines," Indian Embassy said in a statement. Last month, construction of the two cross-border transmission lines was completed. These are Katiya- Kusaha and Raxual-Parwanipur cross-border. Indias power production up by 6.25% in Apr-Jan FY17

The Dollar Business Bureau Power generation in India from conventional as well as renewable sources surged by 6.25% to 1,038.9 billion units (BUs) in the April-January period of this financial year compared to the same period a year-ago.  “The power generation increased by 6.25% at 1038.9 BUs in the April-January period this financial year compared to 977.81 BUs in the corresponding period a year-ago,” according to an official from power ministry.“Focussing mainly on the renewables sources is driving up overall figures of electricity generation,” the official added. The official further stated that the growth in power production, excluding the renewable sources, was 5.04% in the first 10-month period of the fiscal 2016-17. During the given period, power production from renewable sources such as solar and wind grew ...

India can achieve 1.65 bn units of electricity by 2017

India to gain from regional power trade: WB study

The Dollar Business Bureau World Bank, in a study, said that India can be spared from investing $26 billion in 35,000 MW coal-fired capacities over the next 25 years, from regional trade in electricity. The study, which covered all the SAARC countries except the Maldives, said the major benefits would be through fuel cost reduction and by cutting greenhouse gas emission by 6.5 percent. The benefits should come by replacing thermal power with hydro-power, to be obtained mostly from Nepal, Bhutan and Afghanistan. The World Bank expects Nepal to generate 52.1 giga watts (GW) energy in 2040, in addition to its existing capacity of 1 GW. Bhutan would increase its capacity by 9.1 GW and Afghanistan by 3.6 GW. Core industry grows at 3.2%; steel production yet to pick up

The eight core industries – cement, coal, crude oil, electricity, fertilisers, natural gas, refinery products and steel – accounting for about 38% of India’s industrial production, had previously grown by 4.4% in May this year. During the first six months of 2015-16, cumulative growth for the core industry remained 2.3%, down from 5.1% during the same period last year.
