CBEC introduces online generation of rotation numbers for shipping lines/agents

The Dollar Business Bureau The Customs and Excise Department has made easy for shipping lines or agents by introducing the online generation of rotation numbers for vessels. Until now the process followed was a cumbersome one for both the Shipping Line(SL) or the Shipping Agent(SA). According to the process, the allotment of 'Rotation Number' for a vessel that calls on a port, the concerned Shipping Line or Shipping Agent (SL/SA) must file an application with the designated section in the Custom House, along with the desired particulars in the prescribed format. Cabinet greenflags amendments for cess removal ahead of GST

PTI The Union Cabinet today approved amendments in the Customs and Excise Act relating to abolition of cesses and surcharges on various goods and services to facilitate implementation of GST. The amendments in the Customs Act, 1962, allow furnishing of information relating to import or export of goods by specified persons to enable analysis and detection of cases of under or over-valuation in imports and exports. It also aims to check misuse of export promotion schemes, including the Drawback Scheme, and violations of the provisions of the Customs Act and various other laws under which Customs officials have been authorised to implement these laws. CBEC issues detailed process to service tax and central excise payers on migration to GST

The Dollar Business Bureau The draft Model and GST Laws and Rules are in the public domain and CBEC is making all efforts in the smooth implementation of GST by April 1, 2017. One of the priority tasks in this regard is the migration of the existing Central Excise/Service Tax assessees to GST.
