Rising global costs of potash could push India to sign costly imports in 2017

The Dollar Business Bureau Rising global demand for potash a widely used fertiliser, could make India sign costly import contracts in 2017 compared to that of last year. Incidentally, in April the government has decided to reduce the subsidies to the farmers thereby reducing the demand of potash in the country. Local oilseed crushers want government to raise import duties on edible oils

The Dollar Business Bureau The Indian government is under pressure from the local oilseed crushers to raise the import duties on edible oils after domestic oilseed prices slumped way below the government support levels.  Cheap edible oil imports from Malaysia, Brazil, Indonesia and Argentina are crushing the demand of local oilseeds like rapeseed and soybeans while farmers are struggling to compete with them. Wheat procurement touches 30.1 MT till date

The Dollar Business Bureau The country is looking at good wheat output this year. Wheat procurement is generally done during April to March wheat marketing year. But this year procurement of wheat was taken up a month earlier by the Food Corporation of India. Till now about 30.1 MT of wheat has been procured by the FCI and other state agencies in the ongoing rabi marketing season of 2017-18. This is far beyond last year's total purchase of 22.9 MT of wheat. Area under horticulture crops recording an increase of 1.9% over previous year

Sourced from Press Information Bureau The Department of Agriculture, Cooperation and Farmers Welfare has released the Second Advance Estimates of Area and Production of Horticulture Crops for 2016-17. These estimates are based on the information received from different State/UTs in the country. The production of horticulture crops in the country during 2016-17 is estimated to be more than 295 million tonnes which 3.2 % higher as compared to the previous year’s 2015-16 estimates. Sugar price rise 'inevitable' due to sugarcane FRP hike: NFCSF

The Dollar Business Bureau With an 11% hike in the fair and remunerative price (FRP) of sugarcane, there could be a rise in the retail prices of sugar, industry body National Federation of Cooperative Sugar Factories (NFCSF) said. As per official data presently sugar’s retail prices are at Rs 40-45 per kg. PTI The succulent Banganapalle mango has got a Geographical Indication (GI) tag, making Andhra Pradesh the proprietor of the variety know for its sweetness. The Registrar of Geographical Indications Registry, Chennai, O P Gupta has accorded the registration following an application from Horticulture Commissioner, Andhra Pradesh. The Andhra Pradesh government is the registered proprietor of the GI tag for mangoes, often hailed as "the king of fruits."  A GI tag indicates that the product comes from a specific region.
