Kharif foodgrain production to surpass last year numbers: Agri Secretary

Wheat procurement touches 30.1 MT till date

The Dollar Business Bureau The country is looking at good wheat output this year. Wheat procurement is generally done during April to March wheat marketing year. But this year procurement of wheat was taken up a month earlier by the Food Corporation of India. Till now about 30.1 MT of wheat has been procured by the FCI and other state agencies in the ongoing rabi marketing season of 2017-18. This is far beyond last year's total purchase of 22.9 MT of wheat. Foodgrain output to reach a new record in 2017-18

The Dollar Business Bureau  India’s foodgrain production is expected to reach a new high in the crop year 2017-18 which begins from July, on the hopethat India has normal rains consecutively for the second year, said Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh.  Foodgrain output is projected to be at a record high at 273.38 million tonnes in the current crop year (July-June) on the back of good monsoon after drought for two years, compared to 251.57 million tonnes previous year. India's foodgrain output set to reach a record 273.38 MT this year

The Dollar Business Bureau Due to a favourable monsoon last year, the foodgrain production in India recorded an all-time high of 273.38 million tonnes in the crop year 2016-17, which is an increase of 8.7% compared to the previous year. Earlier, the record production was 265.04 million tonnes in 2013-14. Govt imposes 10% import duty on tur dal, wheat

The Dollar Business BureauThe government has imposed a 10% import duty on imports of tur or arhar pulse (pigeon pea) and wheat with immediate effect. The decision was taken to protect the domestic farmers’ interests after the prices of pulses fell below the minimum support price (MSP) across various pulses producing states. The government expects bumper production of ravi crop, especially pulses and wheat this year on the back of normal monsoon season last year. This restrictive measure will control a further fall in the wholesale prices of tur dal and wheat and thus provide better MSP to farmers during ongoing procurement drive. Indias foodgrain production grows 8.1% in 2016-17

The Dollar Business Bureau India’s foodgrain grew 8.1% to 271.98 million tonnes so far in 2016-17, according to the second advance estimates issued by the agriculture & farmer welfare ministry. This year’s production is estimated to be 15% higher than the average foodgrain output of the last five fiscals (2011-12 to 2015-16), largely as a result of normal monsoon the past year and various policy measures initiated by the government. Last year, India registered normal monsoon, experiencing just 3% below average. Ministry of Agriculture estimates record foodgrains production in 2016-17

The Dollar Business Bureau The Ministry of Agriculture has released the second production estimates of foodgrains for the crop year ending 2016-17 (July-June). A fairly good monsoon after two consecutive years of sparse rainfall has boosted production estimates to record levels of 271.98 mt (million tonnes). This year's forecast beats the highest foodgrains production record of 265.04 mt achieved in 2013-14 by 6.94 mt. There is an 8% increase in comparison to last year's (2015-16) production levels which stood at 251.57 mt. The current year's estimate is higher than the average foodgrain production in the last five years (2011-2012 to 2015-16) by 14.97 mt. Rice, pulses, wheat, maize, tur, urad, oilseeds and coarse cereals are the categories that are likely to achieve record production this year. Govt sets high targets for foodgrains output

The Dollar Business Bureau With hopes of abundant rainfall after two straight years of drought, the Centre aims to reach a target of 270.10 million tonnes of food grain production in the Crop Year 2016-2017. The country had touched a new record with an output of 265.04 million tonnes in Crop year 2013-14. However, the output in Crop Year 2015 and 2016 plunged to 252.02 and 253.23 million tonnes, respectively.
