Hike in wages in garment industry to jack up costs, could affect exports and jobs, AEPC

FIEO asks for reduced GST rates for job-work in garment making

Maharashtra to set up Rs.300 crore garment park at Solapur

The Dollar Business Bureau   The Maharashtra government plans to set up a Rs.300 crore garment park at Solapur, the textile hub of Maharashtra. Inaugurating the three-day International Exhibition on Uniform and Textile, State Textile Minister Subhash Deshmukh said the Government is in the process of acquiring the land, and the work the work will begin on January 26. “The State government would provide infrastructure and all support to complete and launch this unique garment park,” he said. Once the garment park is established, Solapur will become a major hub for providing uniforms to the Armed forces and police personnel in the country. AEPC confident that apparel exports could cross $30 bn in next three years

The Dollar Business Bureau The government’s future-oriented initiatives to modernise the country’s textile sector will help push apparel exports to more than $30 billion in the next three years, industry body AEPC said. Referring to the government’s Rs.6,000 cr special package announced in June for the textiles sector, Apparel Export Promotion Council said this move, along with innovative designs prowess will bring about a paradigm change for the industry. "We have an ambitious target for export and job creation in the next three years. The industry is poised to grow in 2017. Govt announces new incentives for garment exporters

The Dollar Business Bureau The government will initiate the process of operationalising the Rs.5,500-crore Rebate of State Levies (ROSL) scheme from September 20. Under this scheme, the revenue department will compensate exporters for state levies. Currently, the exporters get compensated for duty drawback during manufacturing of products for exports. "The main objective of the scheme is to provide for remission of state levies in addition to the duty drawback scheme, through the scheme for ROSL on export of garments on an average basis only," the Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) said in an announcement. AEPC signs MoU with Tehran to promote bilateral trade

The Dollar Business Bureau The Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC), India’s largest export promotion council, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Tehran Garment Union (TGU) on Monday, to promote bilateral trade and industrial cooperation in the textile and fashion sectors between the two countries. The MoU was signed at the 57th edition of India International Garment Fair (IIGF) 2016, which is being held from July 18-20, in Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. Ashok G Rajani, Chairman, AEPC and Mohamad Javad Sedghamiz, Vice President, TGU signed the MoU on behalf of Indian and Iranian bodies, respectively.
