Preventive trade policies restrict export of key agri commodities: study

The Dollar Business Bureau The trade policy of India on agriculture has a pro-customer prejudice which indirectly taxes farmers by putting export curbs on different crops, according to a study. The domestic prices of major agricultural items were below that of export prices in most of the years during the period 2004-2014, a joint study by The World Bank and Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER) on Tuesday revealed. Renault expects sales growth of 8% in India this year

The Dollar Business Bureau  French automobile manufacturer Renault expects that the company’s sales in India to rise by 8% in 2017, with the country becoming its eighth largest market globally driven by the successful entry-level small segment car model Kwid.  Groupe Renault, which witness a record worldwide sales of 31,82,625 units surging by 13.3% in 2016, recorded a sales growth of 145.6% in India.  “In India, Renault kept its position as best-selling European automotive brand, with sales up by 145.6%. Kwid registrations totalled 1,05,745. Rising petrol, diesel prices push WPI inflation to 3.39%

PTI Rising prices of petrol and diesel fuelled WPI inflation to 3.39% in December 2016, reversing the declining trend and neutralising the impact of softening prices of vegetables.Also, hardening prices of manufactured items during the month may refrain RBI from cutting rates in its policy review on February 8.The wholesale price index-based inflation, reflecting the annual rate of price rise, in November stood at 3.15%.In December 2015, the print was (-)1.06%.WPI inflation in vegetables, at (-)33.11% in December, saw deflationary pressure for the fourth consecutive month. Govt framing National Policy for Advanced Manufacturing

The Dollar Business Bureau  In a bid to increase the percentage of manufacturing output to 25 per cent of GDP by 2025 from 16 per cent, the government is in the process of chalking out a National Policy for Advanced Manufacturing. The policy is expected to enhance India’s global manufacturing competitiveness while also being mindful of the "threat to jobs" due to adoption of smart manufacturing. Himachal to import high quality rootstocks

PTI Himachal would import high quality temperate rootstocks and fruit plants under the Rs 1,169-crore state 'Horticulture Development Project' being funded by the World Bank.The decision in this regard was taken at a meeting held under the chairmanship of Principal Secretary Horticulture J C Sharma here today.The meeting decided that identified and high yielding root stocks would be raised in the fruit nurseries of the Horticulture Department to increase the fruit production to make the state competitive in global markets, Sharma said.With a view to boosting horticulture sector in the state, the special emphasis would be on extensive plantation and a sum of Rs 350 crore would be spent on irrigation facilities, the official informed.The sector would be developed in a ...

TerraNet targets India to market new tethering app

Sharath Chowdary  Sweden based proximity aware solution provider TerraNet Lund is targeting India to market its offline tethering app — Meshmedia. This proximal connectivity app will be officially launched in January 2017.
