The Dollar Business Bureau The Government is working on a four-pronged strategy in order to boost the capacity of airports all over India, said Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha on Wednesday. “We have been spending a lot of time thinking and planning about what we should do about airport capacity, we are working on four different aspects,” Sinha said while inaugurating a civil aviation conference organised by ASSOCHAM in New Delhi. GMR Intl Airport to develop and operate Greenfield International airport at Goa

The Dollar Business Bureau The GMR Goa International Airport Limited, an SPV formed by the GMR Airports Limited has won a project to develop and operate a Greenfield International Airport at Mopa, in North Goa. A signed Concession Agreement with the Government of Goa for development and operation of the same was arrived at on 8th November 2016. The project was won by GMR Airports Limited through international competitive bidding process with highest revenue share of 36.99%. The model based on the public-private-partnership is based on Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer (DBFOT) basis. Fifteen new airports to widen air connectivity among smaller cities

The Dollar Business Bureau In order to improve air connectivity in smaller cities, the government has granted “in principle” approval for setting up of 15 greenfield airports across the country. Greenfield airports are set up on undeveloped land with an aim to cater to the areas that are yet to be connected to the existing airports. Upcoming airport projects are planned in Mopa in Goa, Navi Mumbai, Shirdi and Sindhudurg in Maharashtra. Karnataka will have four such airports at Bijapur, Gulbarga, Hasan and Shimoga, while Kerala will get two— Kannur and Aranmula.
