Week-long strike comes to an end at Nhava Sheva port

The Dollar Business Bureau APM Terminals Mumbai has announced that labour issues related to its outsourced RTG (Rubber Tire Gantry) cranes’ operators has been resolved and normal operations have resumed from Wednesday. Due to the strike by RTG operators, container handling operations have been severely affected at the terminal for the last week, leading to congestion and delay in sailing of vessels. Blackout at JNPT on May 1, traders worried about reefers

Sisir Pradhan | The Dollar Business Movement of export and import containers are likely to be affected at India’s most busiest container port, Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNP) in the coming days as the port authorities have announced a total blackout for maintenance work on May 1. The worst hit are likely to be reefer containers as diesel motor powered generators will feed only 190 numbers of refrigerated cargo containers at the port. Congestion grounds export consignments at Gateway Terminals India

Brihanmumbai Custom House Agents’ Association (BCHAA) has issued a ‘trade advisory’ in this regard. The association’s export committee chairman Milan Desai in an official ‘trade advisory’ said that the south gate entrance to the terminal was closed on April 12, 2015 and is non-functional. The outside queue for the terminal was about six kms with trailers in two rows. The gate operation was also very slow and trailer turnaround time at the terminal was on average five hours. APM Terminals Mumbai close to completing its container weighing project

The terminal also known as Gateway Terminals India (GTI) set a new benchmark recording 164,678 TEUs in February 2015 surpassing its previous high container handling of 162,946 TEUs in February 2013.
