Canada allows imports of Indian pomegranates, banana and okra for the first time

The Dollar Business Bureau Canada has allowed market access with certain conditions to Indian horticultural products like custard apples, pomegranates, okra, bananas, mangoes – this was relayed to the Indian industry by India’s Agricultural and Food Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) confirming the Canadian Food Inspection Agency’s (CFIAs) approval.  The conditions for the shipments that CFIA has specified included – origin of the material be clarified in a detailed manner on the shipping documents and that the produce is free of soil, pests and leaves.  APEDA’s letter detailed, “interested exporters of above mentioned commodities are advised to contact the Canadian importers to start export from India subject to compliance of above mentioned requirements.”  The letter also clearly stated that exporters must keep ...

Himachal to import high quality rootstocks

PTI Himachal would import high quality temperate rootstocks and fruit plants under the Rs 1,169-crore state 'Horticulture Development Project' being funded by the World Bank.The decision in this regard was taken at a meeting held under the chairmanship of Principal Secretary Horticulture J C Sharma here today.The meeting decided that identified and high yielding root stocks would be raised in the fruit nurseries of the Horticulture Department to increase the fruit production to make the state competitive in global markets, Sharma said.With a view to boosting horticulture sector in the state, the special emphasis would be on extensive plantation and a sum of Rs 350 crore would be spent on irrigation facilities, the official informed.The sector would be developed in a ...

Indias organic agri exports on upswing

Sachin Manawaria | @TheDollarBiz Growing demand for organic products globally and increasing popularity of Indian organic products is helping increase both production within the country and exports of organic products from India. According to the Agriculture and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), India exported 135 organic products in FY2012-13 with a realization of $374 million which is up around 4.38% from the previous year. Soyabean makes for the bulk, accounting for around 41% of India’s organic exports, while sugarcane (26%) and processed food (14%) are other major organic exports from India.
