The Dollar Business Bureau India’s merchandise exports during December last year recorded a positive growth of 12.36% year-on-year, on the back of a sharper increase in the shipments of engineering goods and petroleum products. Over the last 17 months, exports from the country have been on a positive trajectory, with a decline of just 1.1% in October 2017. However, imports recorded a sharp increase of 21.12% to $41.91 billion during the month on the back of rise in inward shipments of gold, silver, precious stones, petroleum and electronic goods. The Dollar Business Bureau In order to safeguard the domestic industry against cheap imports, Directorate General of Anti-dumping & Allied Duties (DGAD) has recommended imposition of anti-dumping duties on the imports of resorcinol from China and Japan for the period of three years. Resorcinol is a phenolic compound that is used in manufacturing of medicines, resins, dyes, plastics and various other organic chemical compounds. “The Authority is of the view that imposition of anti-dumping duty is required to offset dumping and injury. Sheela Mamidenna  The Directorate General of Anti-Dumping Duty imposed an anti-dumping duty(ADD) on the textured toughened (tempered) glass, imported from China PR, with a minimum of 90.5% transmission having a thickness not exceeding 4.2 mm (including tolerance of 0.2mm). This was relayed by the Customs via notification no- 38/2017- Customs (ADD) dated August 18, 2017. The textured toughened glass is used as a component in solar photovoltaic panels and in solar thermal applications. Total exports for the month stood at $24.5 billion, when compared to $20.8 billion in January 2016. For the same month, trade deficit widened year on year from $6.5 billion in 2016 to $8.8 billion in 2017. The Dollar Business Bureau Finland on Tuesday said it is eagerly waiting for the landmark Goods and Service Tax (GST) to be rolled out as it will bring transparency in the country’s tax regime and thus encourage ease of doing business.
