The Dollar Business Bureau  Good news for Indian rice exporters! China has for the first time granted phytosanitary clearances to 14 Indian rice exporters, including Amira Pure Foods, LT Foods and Kohinoor Foods after it had imposed non-tariff barriers on imports of non-basmati rice from India. Time to tweak Indias rice export policy

Bidhu Bhushan Palo | @TheDollarBiz There is good news for Indian rice exporters. According to industry estimates, India’s rice production is likely to reach (or at least remain) at record high levels of around 105 million tonnes again in 2014-15. This improves chances that India will retain its position as the world’s largest rice exporter, ahead of Thailand and Vietnam, for the third year in a row. Thailand lost its top rice exporter status for the first time in over two decades in 2011-12 to India. However, the reasons behind this are far from something that will make our exporters (or farmers) beam with pride. One reason was a glut in India due to a three-year ban on exports ...

Russia rejects Indias rice consignment due to pest contamination

According to Russian officials, the contamination was detected in steam-treated (parboiled) rice consignment in July 2014 and the specified grain consignment is banned for import to the Russian Federation. The Russian rice market is ...

India forecast to retain top rice exporter position in 2014

The Dollar Business Bureau | @TheDollarBiz Recovery in monsoons in India is likely to help rice production remain at high levels this year, says FAO   Despite poor rainfall, India is likely to remain the world’s largest rice exporter in 2014 for the third consecutive year, helped by large carryover stocks, according to the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO). FAO says that India’s total paddy production this year may decline to around 157.5 million tonnes (about 102.3 million tonnes, milled rice equivalent), which is down about 1% from last year’s record 159.4 million tonnes due to below-average monsoon rains over main rice producing regions. However, rice cultivation has improved after rainfall recovered since mid-July 2014. FAO adds that after the bumper ...
