Vedanta resumes iron ore mining in Goa, looks to regain export market

The Dollar Business Bureau Mining firm Vedanta on Monday resumed operation in the iron ore mines of Goa after getting approvals to extract 5.5 million tonnes of minerals. The mining operation had been stalled in the state since 2012. “The company has received the relevant consent, licence and approvals in place to commence the iron-ore mining operations in the state of Goa for some of its leases. The company is likely to recommence operations from August 10, 2015 at its biggest mine at Codli in Sanguem taluka in Goa,” Vedanta said in a statement. Indias mineral production increases by 1.4%

The Dollar Business Bureau India’s mineral production was to the tune of Rs 22,352 crore in March this year and the sector registered 1.4% growth in the past one year. The index of mineral production in the month of March this year was at 148.5, up 0.9% as compared to the same month in 2014. The cumulative growth for April- March 2014-15 over the corresponding period of the previous year stands at 1.4%, said a government data released on Thursday.
