Indian Railways to join hands with Malaysia to modernise and redevelop 20 stations across country

The Dollar Business Bureau The Indian Railways is making plans to join hands with Malaysia to redevelop about 20 stations in Tier-II cities across the country. This project could attract nearly Rs 1 lakh crore in private investment the railways said. The redevelopment project entails infrastructure revamp at platforms and in the circulating areas.  The project also encompasses development of station areas for commercial purposes. Indian Railways bags Rs.680 cr export order from Sri Lanka

The Dollar Business Bureau  Indian Railways will export to Sri Lanka train sets and modern locomotives worth around Rs.680 crore, in the largest shipment order for the Railways. Rail India Technical and Economic Service (RITES), the export arm of Railways, has got its biggest order from the Sri Lankan Railways for exporting 6 diesel multiple units (DMU) train sets and 10 broad gauge diesel locomotives. The separate locomotive is not required in DMU train sets as the engines are integrated into one or more than one of its coaches. Railways to buy high-speed locomotives from foreign suppliers

The Dollar Business Bureau The government is currently working on a plan to upgrade Indian railways, as the Ministry of Railways has announced Rs.500 crore investment to purchase high-speed locomotive and technology from global high-speed train manufacturers and suppliers.    In the first phase, the government will float a global tender to acquire ten high-speed electric locomotive trains with a capacity to run at 200 kmph and beyond. The Delhi-Mumbai and Delhi-Kolkata rail corridors will be upgraded first, making them suitable for clocking 200 kmph speed. At present, Shatabdi, Rajdhani and Duronto trains run at a maximum speed of 130 kmph on Delhi-Kolkata track. Exporters hail focus on infra development, express disappointment over corporate tax

They said that it has spelt out some definite measures to facilitate infrastructure development in the transport sector. The Finance minister proposed a railway outlay at Rs 1.31 lakh crore. Railway plans to earn Rs. 8k cr via commercial development

The Dollar Business Bureau  With an aim to increase its revenues, the Indian Railways has formulated plans to make Rs.8000 crores via commercial development of railway land across the country. There are several areas near railway stations, colonies and workshops, which are lying idle and according to the plan, these unused sites would be developed commercially, said a senior official from the Railway Ministry. In order to commercially utilise these sites, Indian Railways has created a Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA). Presently, RLDA has been entrusted with 49 sites, that measures 497.21 hectares, for commercial development, the official informed.
