Government introduces minor changes to start-up definition

The Dollar Business Bureau   The Government has introduced some slight changes to the definition of start-up and said that an entity not older than 7 years will now be eligible to get benefits under the ‘Start-up India’ Action Plan. Currently, only businesses incorporated five years back were eligible for sops under the Action Plan, which was announced by the government in 2016. According to the new definition, an enterprise with a turnover of less than Rs.25 crore shall be considered a startup if it has not finished 7 years from its date of registration/incorporation. PTI Microsoft's India-born chief Satya Nadella on Wednesday attempted to allay concerns over the increasing use of technology in public life and said building trust was crucial to its utilisation as a tool to "empower" people. US sees huge potential for innovation, R&D in India

Govt to create team on Indias status as innovation hub: Sitharaman

The Dollar Business Bureau  The government will create a team to look into the positioning of India as an innovative country, said Nirmala Sitharaman, Minister of Commerce and Industry, on Friday at the unveiling of Global Innovation Index (GII) 2016, in which India is in the 66th position.  The Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) will form the team, consisting of government officers and experts from private sector firms, the minister said.   “We will analyse the weaknesses and challenges and find out the areas where the government needs to get more involved or stay away,” she said.   India had witnessed a downward path during the period between 2013-2015 in its position for inputs and outputs. French cos to pump in euro 8 bn in India

PTI Bullish on India's growth, major French companies will be investing about euro 8 billion in the country in next few years. "Leading French companies will invest some 8 billion euros in Indian market over the few years," French Ambassador to India Alexandre Ziegler said on the sidelines of a CII event here today. French majors had already invested euro 20 billion in the country accounting for the third largest FDI inflow from the European country. Israels Pears foundation to hold bination hackathon

The Dollar Business Bureau Pears Foundation of Israel is hosting a bination hackathon focusing on affordable healthcare across four cities – Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Mumbai and Tel Aviv (Israel). The 36-hour hackathon in Hyderabad will be conducted by India's largest incubator for startups T-Hub in association with its Israel counterpart.
