Mango exports to be down this year as production drop by 70% in UP

The Dollar Business Bureau Due to adverse weather conditions, the production of mangoes declined around 70% and mango cultivators have suffered huge losses in Uttar Pradesh this year. Therefore, the exports of ‘king of fruits’ would likely to go down from the state. “This year mango production will be between 10 lakh tonnes to 15 lakh tonnes only. There is 70% drop in mango production as compared to previous year,” Insram Ali, President of All India Mango Growers Association (AIMGA) told PTI. First consignment of Indian mangoes arrive in Australia

The Dollar Business Bureau  Mango, the king of fruits, has finally reached Australia from India, with an inaugural shipment of about 400 trays of mangoes landing in Sydney this week. The mangoes from India have been exported to Australia after the protocol was revised last month allowing the Indian fruit to cross into the Australian shores. As per Australian regulations, the fruit was allowed into their country only after being treated with irradiation prior to leaving from India. GI tag for Andhra Pradesh's Banganapalle mango

PTI The succulent Banganapalle mango has got a Geographical Indication (GI) tag, making Andhra Pradesh the proprietor of the variety know for its sweetness. The Registrar of Geographical Indications Registry, Chennai, O P Gupta has accorded the registration following an application from Horticulture Commissioner, Andhra Pradesh. The Andhra Pradesh government is the registered proprietor of the GI tag for mangoes, often hailed as "the king of fruits."  A GI tag indicates that the product comes from a specific region. India may export mangoes to Australia after meeting their biosecurity standards

PTI For the first time, India may export mangoes to Australia that meet biosecurity standards of the country after Canberra revised phytosanitary protocols for the 'king of fruits'. Robert Gray, chief executive of Australian Mango Industry Association, said the Indian mangoes would be for sale outside of the Australian mango season. However, the fruit has to meet biosecurity standards including irradiation before they are exported, he said. The phytosanitary (related with plants) norms requires irradiation treatment and inspection prior to the shipment. EU may soon allow vegetable imports from India

The Dollar Business Bureau After the European Union lifted the ban on Indian mango last year, it has indicated that it may also allow imports of bitter gourd, brinjal, colocasia and snake gourd from the country. However, these exports consignments will undergo strict checks and supervision to ensure they are peat-free. The Indian government has taken a wide gamut of measures, such as registering farmers to make them traceable and implementing standard operating procedures for pack houses to ensure the shipped products meet the international standards. The European Union (EU) has, however, said it will lift a complete ban on these vegetables only after assessing their quality. India in talks with various nations to boost mango exports

The Dollar Business Bureau India is in discussion with different nations including South Africa and Australia to enhance its exports of mangoes. “Although some varieties of mangoes from northern India are already being exported to Australia, authorities concerned are pursued to consider other varieties as well,” Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said in a written response to Lok Sabha.An Australian delegation had visited the country in the month of June to verify and certify the three irradiation units for irradiated mangoes export from the southern and western regions of India," she said. Innova Agri Bio Park exports 1.2 tonnes fruits to US

The Dollar Business Bureau Innova Agri Bio Park has exported 1.2 tonnes of mangoes and pomegranates to the US on Thursday. This is the first shipment from the park which is a Public Private Partnership (PPP) enterprise supported by the Union Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) and Food Karnataka Ltd (FKL), a Special Purpose Vehicle under the Government of Karnataka. After flagging off the shipment, Karnataka Health Minister K R Ramesh Kumar said, this project is a testimony of the state government and the best management practices of the industry to offer better agro-environmental sustenance, farm prosperity and productivity.
