Indias meat export rises to 13.53 lakh tonnes in 2016-17: Sitharaman

Goa procures additional beef from Karnataka: Parrikar

The Dollar Business Bureau Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said on Tuesday that the state-run slaughterhouses produces about 2,000 kg of beef a day and the additional demand for beef in the state is met by importing it from neighbouring state like Karnataka. In a reply to question by a BJP member in state assembly, over the beef quality supplied by the neighbouring state, Parrikar said that the beef procured from Karnataka would be put to proper process of inspection. “Approximately 2,000 kg beef is produced per day at the state abattoir - the Goa Meat Complex Limited, while rest of beef is brought in from Karnataka,” said the Chief Minister, who also holds the portfolio of animal husbandry. “The projected beef sale in the ...

WPI inflation drops to 0.90%, an 8-month low in June

The Dollar Business Bureau Inflation based on Wholesale price index (WPI) fell to 0.90% in June, lowest in eight months as the prices of food commodities and manufactured goods declined. Inflation was 2.17% in May 2017 and (-) 0.09% in June last year, according to the official data released by the Commerce Ministry on Friday. “Build up inflation rate in the financial year so far was -0.44% compared to 3.71% in the corresponding period of the previous year, it said. The prices of major food items such as vegetables, potatoes and pulses witnessed a sharp decline in the month. USDA lowers forecast for meat production in 2017

The Dollar Business Bureau  The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) on Friday lowered the forecast for overall production of meat in 2017 to 100.1 billion pounds (lb) against the 100.4 billion pounds estimated last month. However, it raised the forecast for production in 2018 from the previous 102.8 billion lb to 103 billion lb.  “Beef production for 2017 was lowered to 26.3 billion lb primarily due to lighter carcass weights, which will more than offset expected increased slaughter in the later part of 2017, USDA said in its latest report “World Agricultural Supply & Demand Estimates” released on June 9.  The expectations for further placements are backing up a higher beef forecast in 2018 of 27.2 billion lb, the report added.  For 2017, ...

Philippines exports to EU increases 56.2%

The latest statistics by Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) revealed that exports to European Union member countries, with 16.2% share to total merchandise exports amounted to $901.24 million.  It rose by 56.2% from $577.04 million recorded in March 2016. What was even more interesting was that the export numbers of Philippines to EU for that month overtook those of US which was $809.93 million and Japan $762.43 million. Retail inflation falls to 2.99% in April on lower food prices

The Dollar Business Bureau  The country’s retail inflation declined sharply to 2.99% in April against the 3.89% in March, on account of lower prices of food items such as vegetables and pulses that recorded a deflationary trend.  In April 2016, the consumer price index (CPI) inflation was at 5.47%.  Pulses and products prices witnessed a sharp decline in April, with a deflation of 15.94%, whereas prices of vegetables fell by 8.59%.
