India to give $3 mn grant, $81 mn credit to Rwanda

PTI India on Tuesday announced a grant of $3 million for medicines and purchase of medical equipment as well as a Line of Credit of $81 million for a road project in Rwanda as the two countries decided to collaborate closely to counter terrorism while stressing the need to isolate countries which support cross-border terrorism. New policy to boost Indias medical device industry

The Dollar Business Bureau In a move to strengthen the Indian medical devices industry, the Department of Pharmaceuticals (DoP) has come up with a National Medical Device Policy (NMDP) 2015, aimed at promoting ‘Make in India’ in this industry by reducing dependence on imports. A draft was issued by DoP on June 3, 2015, seeking comments prior to implementation. The policy intends to set up a strong base for manufacturing of medical devices in India, especially for the affordable variety. It comes during a time when the aforesaid industry is dependent on imports from developed nations. CII welcomes Cabinet approval to ease FDI norms for medical devices

The Dollar Business Bureau The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has welcomed the Cabinet approval of 100% FDI for medical devices under the ‘automatic route.’ This move would encourage manufacturing of equipment, including diagnostic kits and other devices, and support the “Make in India” initiative of the government, according to CII. Chandrajit Banerjee, Director General, CII said that this approval would meet a long standing need for local manufacturing and technology infusion in the sector.
