US-based tech group urges Trump to overcome digital trade barriers

The Dollar Business Bureau A US-based technology group Information Technology Industry Council (ITI) has prodded the Trump government to take steps in overcoming barriers in digital trade and alleged that various countries including China and India are biased in their policies which unfairly disadvantage US companies.  In addition, the technology group named countries like Canada, Indonesia, Russia, South Korea, Mexico and Vietnam, which have followed discriminatory policies against American companies.  “Multiple foreign governments have turned to discriminatory or otherwise harmful policies that unfairly disadvantage American companies and impede the ability of technology products and services to drive growth,” ITI said in a report to the President.  The countries in which rules that treat foreign and domestic companies differently are Colombia, China, India, Indonesia, Russia, South Korea and ...

On his twitter account, he stated, “I received calls from the President of Mexico and the Prime Minister of Canada asking to renegotiate NAFTA rather than terminate. I agreed – subject to the fact that if we do not reach a fair deal for all, we will then terminate NAFTA. Mexico steps up bilateral FTA talks with Turkey

The Dollar Business Bureau After US President Donald Trump called for a renegotiation of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), Mexico has escalated talks with its other trade partners, including Turkey for creating new free trade zones. On Friday, Mexico’s Secretary of Foreign Affairs Luis Videgaray said Mexican and Turkish authorities agreed to speed up the negotiations process of bilateral free trade agreement. "We've already had seven rounds of negotiations, and another round will be held in the coming weeks, we have agreed to speed up the process of searching for specifics of this agreement," Videgaray said, after his meeting with his Turkish counterpart. Trump's pet Mexican wall could be financed by import tax

The Dollar Business Bureau Hinting at another major foreign policy shift, Trump has proposed to impose 20% tax on imports from all the countries America has a trade deficit with. The proceeds thereof, the White House said, will finance the construction of a wall on the Mexican border, which was Trump campaign's signature election promise. Deeming the 20% import tax proposal as one that is practiced by 160 countries, White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer called the US trade policy of taxing exports and letting imports move freely ridiculous. Trump now threatens Toyota with big border tax

The Dollar Business Bureau  US President-elect Donald Trump has now targeted Toyota Motor Corp over its Mexican-manufactured car, threatening the Japanese car makers to pay “big border tax” if shipped Mexico-built cars to the US market. Earlier this month, Trump criticised General Motors (GM) and Ford Motor for manufacturing their vehicles abroad and shipping them to the US market.  The soon-to-be President had accused these companies of costing US jobs. Another Japanese car maker, Nissan Motor Co, could be at a bigger loss if Trump unveils any tax punishment.
