Wheat procurement touches 30.1 MT till date

The Dollar Business Bureau The country is looking at good wheat output this year. Wheat procurement is generally done during April to March wheat marketing year. But this year procurement of wheat was taken up a month earlier by the Food Corporation of India. Till now about 30.1 MT of wheat has been procured by the FCI and other state agencies in the ongoing rabi marketing season of 2017-18. This is far beyond last year's total purchase of 22.9 MT of wheat. No role of middlemen in wheat procurement: Adityanath

PTI Ruling out any role of middlemen in wheat procurement, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath today asked peoples' representatives to help in monitoring wheat purchase centres which will go functional in the state from April 1, 2017. "The Chief Minister has desired that MLAs and MPs help in monitoring of working at purchase centres and provide feedback on implementation of government orders in this regard," an official spokesman said. Govt imposes 10% import duty on tur dal, wheat

The Dollar Business BureauThe government has imposed a 10% import duty on imports of tur or arhar pulse (pigeon pea) and wheat with immediate effect. The decision was taken to protect the domestic farmers’ interests after the prices of pulses fell below the minimum support price (MSP) across various pulses producing states. The government expects bumper production of ravi crop, especially pulses and wheat this year on the back of normal monsoon season last year. The Dollar Business Bureau After a record surge last year, tur dal prices have witnessed a sudden slump in the wholesale market this year, falling considerably below the Minimum Support Prices (MSP) level.  Tur dal prices came down to Rs.4500 per quintal, as it has fallen by more than half in the last quarter alone. In addition to the bumper crop of the commodity last year, supported by the Government’s demonetisation drive, the prices have crashed to a record level.  The major tur dal producing countries including Karnataka, Maharashtra and Gujarat had a good crop year in 2016. Govt procures 3273 tons of moong at MSP and bonus rate

The Dollar Business Bureau The Government has procured 3,273 tonnes of moong from farmers at the minimum support price (MSP) and bonus rate to protect their interest. "Since the start of arrival of new crop in the market, the Government agencies have procured 3273.16 MT Moong as on Sept 19, 2016 benefiting 330 farmers," said the food ministry in a statement. The Government agencies –Food Corporation of India (FCI), National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Ltd. Paswan sees bumper pulse output this year, warns hoarders

PTI The country will see a bumper pulse production this year leading to a fall in prices and hoarders will not stand to benefit, Food Minister Ram Vilas Paswan on Thursday said as he asked them to offload their stocks. Singling out hoarders and blackmarketeers for the sharp rise in retail prices of pulses, he felt that the states did not take stringent action against them. India's pulses import jumps 50% to Rs.25,500 cr in FY16

The Dollar Business Bureau  India’s imports of pulses increased by 50 percent in terms of value to Rs.25,691 crore in the last fiscal of 2015-16, with imports totaling 5.8 million tonnes. India imported 4.58 million tonnes of the major kitchen staple amounting to Rs.17,063 crore, said S S Ahluwalia, Minister of State for Agriculture in a written response to the Upper House. He said, that the country has a buffer stock of 69,000 tonnes of pulses at the closing of the month of July 2016. Govt. hikes MSP for pulses to boost production

The Dollar Business Bureau The government on Wednesday hiked the minimum support price (MSP) of pulses by up to Rs. 425 per quintal for the year 2016-17 to boost domestic production and check price rise.It has also announced a bonus on the cultivation of pulses and oilseeds, payable over and above the agreed MSP, in order to incentivise the cultivation of these items.The decision to raise MSP was taken after Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP), which considers the production cost, domestic and international prices, overall demand and supply, inter-crop price parity, effect of the price policy on economy, and terms of trade between agricultural and non-agricultural sectors, came out with the MSP recommendation for kharif crops 2016-17.
