Around 20 mines across country to be auctioned soon

PTI Around 20 mines across the country would be put to auction soon, Union Secretary for Mines Balvinder Kumar said here today. Of the total 17 mines auctioned so far after amendment of the MMDA Act, the highest 7 blocks belonged to Karnataka. Himachal govt issues guidelines for scientific mining

PTI Himachal Pradesh government has notified the guidelines for transparent auction and scientific mining and hiked the penalty for offences under the mining act.  The government has decided that the mining lease would be granted through open auction, officials said.   In order to curb illegal mining the state government has notified Himachal Pradesh Minor Minerals (Concession) and Minerals (Prevention of Illegal Mining,Transportation and Storage) Rules, 2015 providing for stringent punishment for illegal mining.    Imprisonment up to two years or fine up to Rs 25,000 or both has been made for those involved in illegal mining of minerals, their transportation and holding. Private sector to have equal partnership in mining auction

The Dollar Business Bureau The Central Government is in the process of finalizing a policy to engage private players in mining sector. According to Union Minister for Steel and Mines, Narendra Singh Tomar, private sector would be brought in as an equal partner into the process once the guidelines and framework have been finalized. “82 mining blocks have been earmarked for auction and will be announced by end of October as Phase-I.
