Govt aims to cut coal imports to zero for power PSUs

The Dollar Business Bureau The Government said on Sunday that it is targeting to bring down the imports of thermal coal to ‘zero’ of power public sector units (PSUs) such as NTPC Ltd in this fiscal, a step that will help in cutting down the import bill of the country by about Rs.17,000 crore. “This year we want that coal import by these plants (of public sector companies) should be brought down to zero and slowly we would convince the private sector that there is no need for you to import coal,” Susheel Kumar, Secretary - Coal told the PTI. NTPC Board approves Rs.323.35 cr for 50 MW wind power project

The Dollar Business Bureau The board of NTPC, India's biggest energy conglomerate, has cleared Rs.323.35 crore investment in the public sector unit’s (PSU) first wind power project of 50 MW in Rojmal, Gujarat. In its BSE filing, the company said, “The Board of Directors of NTPC in its meeting held on November 30, 2016 has accorded investment approval for Rojmal Wind Energy Project (50 MW) in Gujarat at an appraised estimated cost of Rs.323.35 crore subject to signing of Power Project Agreement.” This will be NTPC’s first wind energy project, the statement said. Govt approves revival of 3 defunct urea plants

The Union Cabinet, which was chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved the renewal of the three fertilizer plants, each bearing potential of 1.27 million tonnes per annum production capacity. Coal India-NTPC JV to revive fertiliser plants

The Dollar Business Bureau Coal India Limited announced that it has entered into an agreement with state-run power company NTPC Ltd. for revival of its two fertilizer plants. According to the deal, the 50-50 joint venture between Coal India and NTPC will establish and operate new fertiliser (ammonia urea) complex at Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh and Sindri in Jharkhand units of the Fertiliser Corporation of India Limited (FCIL). The joint venture will also market FCIL’s products.
