E-commerce gives boost to Indias SME sector, says study

The Dollar Business Bureau The growing e-commerce sector which is expected to cross $80 billion by 2020 in India has proved to be a driving force for the country’s small and medium enterprises (SMEs), adding to their exports value and revenue, a study has said. According to the study carried out by online shopping platform Snapdeal and research firm KPMG, extensive use of internet can double the export of any small unit. “SMEs that use the internet extensively tend to export approximately twice as much by export value when compared to SMEs using the internet sparingly,” it said. New framework to promote e-marketing of handloom products

The Dollar Business Bureau The government has brought in a new policy to promote the e-marketing of handloom products. The move is aimed at attracting young customers who prefer shopping online. The move comes days after the government announced initiatives like 'India Handloom' brand and the ‘National Handloom Day’ to encourage the weaving industry. As per the new policy, the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handlooms) under the Ministry of Textiles would collaborate with approved e-commerce companies to promote handloom products.
