Dip in services sector FDI not a major concern, say experts

Sai Nikesh | The Dollar Business Foreign Direct Investments (FDI) in various sectors saw a negative trend in the first two months of the current fiscal year. In services sector, the inflow has declined 15% to $488 million during the first two months of the current fiscal, as compared to the figure of the same period of last year. “FDI in services sector has dipped, but it should not be a major cause of concern as overall FDI inflows in April-May 2015 period has touched $7.5bn, which is roughly 30% more than what we received last year during the same period,” Sanjay Budhia, Co-Chairman, CII National committee on International Trade Policy& Exports, told The Dollar Business. Indias IT services exports to touch $98 billion in 2015-16: NASSCOM

The Dollar Business Bureau India’s services exports seem to be headed towards the revival path with improvement in global economic climate and increasing investment on technology, say experts. According to the government data, services exports from India witnessed a fall of around 4% during the last financial year. However, between 2002 and 2012, the country’s overseas trade in services grew from $20.76 billion to $142.32 billion. In April this year, services exports from the country were worth $13.01 billion, down from $13.63 billion registered in April last year. India, Bangladesh to join hands to develop regional exports hub

The Dollar Business Bureau India and Bangladesh are considering the development of a regional supply chain to boost their exports and set up a joint manufacturing hub of South Asian countries to counter China’s Pearl Valley Delta.
