US-based tech group urges Trump to overcome digital trade barriers

The Dollar Business Bureau A US-based technology group Information Technology Industry Council (ITI) has prodded the Trump government to take steps in overcoming barriers in digital trade and alleged that various countries including China and India are biased in their policies which unfairly disadvantage US companies.  In addition, the technology group named countries like Canada, Indonesia, Russia, South Korea, Mexico and Vietnam, which have followed discriminatory policies against American companies.  “Multiple foreign governments have turned to discriminatory or otherwise harmful policies that unfairly disadvantage American companies and impede the ability of technology products and services to drive growth,” ITI said in a report to the President.  The countries in which rules that treat foreign and domestic companies differently are Colombia, China, India, Indonesia, Russia, South Korea and ...

NITI to merge 15-yr vision document, 7-yr strategy paper

The Dollar Business Bureau  NITI Aayog, the Government think-tank, has decided to combine the 15-year vision document with 7-year medium-term strategy paper to bring out a comprehensive roadmap to accelerate the economic growth. “We are thinking of having a brief chapter regarding the vision in the 7-year strategy paper which will be a bulky document outlining the action plan for expediting growth. The vision document will be aspirational, about the kind of country we want to build...The kind of society we want to be in. Separate company needed to operate Govt e-Marketplace: Com Min

The Dollar Business Bureau The Commerce Ministry plans to form a separate company for the management of government e-Marketplace (GeM), a platform for the Central Government departments to source office supplies from. In an initiative to make procurement of goods and services by the government transparent, the NDA regime had announced the creation of an online platform for public procurement in Budget 2016-17. Developed jointly by Directorate General of Supplies and Disposal (DGS&D) and National e-Governance Division (NeGD), GeM began full-fledged operations from August 2016. As of January 2017, the government is reported to source more than 7400 products in 150 different categories from the GeM portal. CPSUs urged to up public procurement from MSMEs

The Dollar Business Bureau  The Union Minister for Micro, Small, Medium Enterprises (MSME), on Friday, urged Public Sector Units (PSUs) to increase their procurement from MSMEs to boost the country’s small-scale industry. In a review meeting on implementation of Public Procurement Policy that was attended by representatives from 44 CPSUs, MSME Minister Kalraj Mishra revealed that 38 Central PSUs (CPSUs) have achieved the target of 20% public procurement from MSMEs in the just concluded financial year. He urged CPSUs’ to take a proactive action to achieve a target of 20% annual procurement from MSMEs including 4% from MSMEs owned by SC/STs.
