Rubber industry asks govt to curb cheap imports

Deepak Kumar | The Dollar Business Concerned over a continuous fall in domestic production and an upsurge in imports, rubber industry has asked the government to take immediate measures to restrict foreign suppliers from dumping their products in the country. “India’s rubber production is not competitive in the world. Inverted duty is also very high. This is discouraging and has a negative impact on the domestic rubber production. So people prefer importing rubber and rubber products from China and sell them in the domestic market. Rubber industry demands separate body to promote exports

The All India Rubber Industries Association (AIRIA) has submitted its demand to the Commerce Ministry, seeking a dedicated export promotion council to encourage manufacturing of rubber products and their overseas shipment to tap the international market. At present, the export of rubber products comes under the Chemicals and Allied Products export promotion council (Capexil). “We have sent a letter to the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) under the Ministry of Commerce and demanded that there should be a separate export promotion council for rubber industry. Government looking into import duty, FTA issues: Steel Minister

Source: PTI Expressing concern over problems being faced by domestic steelmakers due to large-scale dumping from abroad, Steel Minister Narendra Singh Tomar on Thursday said the government is looking into the issues related to import duties and Free Trade Agreements(FTA). The minister also said the government is seized of the issues impacting the steel sector and will take a decision in appropriate time, including on import duties.
