FDI policy liberalised, 100% FDI now in retail, construction

The Cabinet has allowed 100% FDI via automatic route in single brand retail trading and construction, while it has raised the existing limit in power exchanges and aviation sectors. “The Union Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has given its approval to a number of amendments in the FDI Policy. These are intended to liberalise and simplify the FDI policy so as to provide ease of doing business in the country. No decision yet on FDI in multi-brand retail: Commerce Minister

The Dollar Business Bureau Despite having series of discussions and consultations with stakeholders, the government is yet to take any decision on Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in multi-brand retail. “As regards Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) policy in multi-brand retail trading, no decision has been taken by the government,” Commerce Minister Nirmala Sitharaman told Rajya Sabha on Wednesday. The current foreign investment policy allows up to 51% FDI in multi-brand retail, but the government seems to be not so keen on increasing the limit for foreign investments in the sector.
